The Cat from Outer Space (1978)
An alien from another world is forced to emergency-land on Earth, with the promise of repairing his ship and returning to the rendezvous point three days later. Just one thing: the alien is a cat! WHAT?! This talking cat, Jake, befriends a few physicists, uses his mind power to cheat at gambling, and eventually applies for US citizenship. The cast includes Ken Berry and Roddy McDowall. Yes, that Roddy McDowall.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1978)
Buck Rogers, an astronaut from 1987 gets frozen in space for 500 years until he is finally de-thawed by the Draconians. He eventually makes it back to Earth to find it nearly destroyed by nuclear war, except for a few very developed cities. Once there he falls in love with a local girl (who doesn't like him at all) and gains two robot friends. It turns out the Draconians are bad guys, and Buck has to save the universe by killing everyone in sight.

Zardoz (1974)
Earth is in ruin, and a mysterious God, Zardoz, floats around in the form of a giant stone head, giving guns to his followers and instructing them to kill those few humans which are still alive. Sean Connery stows away in the head and finds himself in a wonderful garden of eden, filled with people who consider him savage and perform tests on him. He eventually destroys everything they've built, then his people invade and shoot everyone.

THX 1138 (1970)
In the not-so distant future, man is apparently made to service the greater good by handling dangerous materials in a subterranean plant. We no longer have names, we instead have designations. Robert Duvall (THX 1138) is such a worker, and he wants out. This film is actually an extension of George Lucas's short film, by the same title.

Logan's Run (1976)
In the 23rd century, humanity lives for pleasure. The catch is that no one may live to the age of 30. Upon reaching "Lastday," they partake in ceremonial execution. Those who try to flee are called Runners, and Logan (Michael York) is part of the elite Sandmen, who track down and kill runners. But the tables turn when Logan reaches his 29th birthday, and becomes a runner himself.
