I usually don't enjoy animal movies, monkey movies being the worst. That, and dog movies where the dog turns out to be an excellent sports player, like Air Bud: Golden Receiver. I didn't like Disney's That Darn Cat or the 1990's remake, That Goddamned Cat. But I must admit, dear readers, I really enjoyed this Disney cat film. Let's investigate the cause:
Perhaps it's because of the all-star cast (see images), including Roddy McDowall (you may remember him as Corneilus from Planet of the Apes) and Ken Berry (you may remember him as the semi-retarded fellow from Momma's Family). This movie also stared Sandy Duncan from Some Crap I've Never Heard Of. If there were one cast member which could have been dragged through the streets and then shot, it was Sandy Duncan. Her only job on the movie was to be whiny and look unattractive-- she gave a sterling performance.
As far as the cat goes, it's hard to rate animal actors. So, I decided to discuss what exactly they trained this cat to do for the movie. From what I could tell, he at one point raises his paw, and at two other points he has a sneezing fit (he's pretending to be sick in the scenes). While both of these tricks are amazing (especially if they shot pepper spray in the cat's face to get him to have a sneezing fit), these were the only tricks he did. He spoke to everyone in an echoed voice without moving his lips, and had a glowing collar to perform feats of telekinesis (Church groups protested this Disney movie because of the cat's witchcraft, and also because they suspected he was gay).
Despite the goofiness (or perhaps, because of it) I actually really like this movie. Perhaps it reminds me of my own movie, The Adventures and Early Education of Digi-Nosy, Feline Robot, or perhaps I just didn't take my medication today. HA HA!! YOU DECIDE-- BUT FIRST, BRING ME A SOCK AND A BLUEBERRY TURNOVER!

An alien from another world is forced to emergency-land on Earth, with the promise of repairing his ship and returning to the rendezvous point three days later. Just one thing: the alien is a cat! WHAT?! This talking cat, Jake, befriends a few physicists, uses his mind power to cheat at gambling, and eventually applies for US citizenship. The cast includes Ken Berry and Roddy McDowall. Yes, that Roddy McDowall.
